Treatment

Neuropathy Relief of Siouxland has developed an extremely successful Treatment Protocol that utilizes a combination of specialized therapies that are FDA cleared and designed to rehabilitate the cause of Peripheral Neuropathy. Your doctor will select the best combination of treatment, frequency of care, nutritional plan, and home support determined after your initial Consultation, 14-Point Examination and Diagnostics. Below is a list with a brief description of some of the therapies and treatments that could be applied to individuals with Peripheral Neuropathy.

SoftWave TRT

The reason why SoftWaveTRT is considered to be the best technology in treating Neuropathy is that it actually has a patent for peripheral nerve regeneration (neuro-elongation). This means that it re-grows your nerves within your arms and legs and explains the “TRT” which stand for Tissue Regeneration Technology. What other treatment device can make that claim?  *Areas only SoftWave available at Neuropathy Relief of Siouxland.

Amazingly, results are typically immediate as your stem cells are activated to come alive and called into action within hours of treatment. To provide long-term benefits, even more healing comes 8-10 weeks later when these stem cells have been produced and migrated to the treatment area.

This eventually results in up to 300% improvement in permanent blood supply 10 to 12 weeks later. To create these amazing healing effects, the SoftWaveTRT is the only technology that utilizes heat and light to create patented electro-hydraulically healing soundwaves that comfortably enter into the arms and legs at 3355 miles an hour.

There are a number of profound benefits from using this unfocused low intensity lithotripsy: #1 SoftWave does not rely on or have to create any micro-trauma for its healing capabilities. Instead, it non-traumatically causes cells to shed micro-vessels which signals a healing cascade on a cellular level. #3 Software is scientifically validated through peer reviewed studies and immediately shuts down the inflammatory response at the treatment site. This has been linked to modulation of various signaling molecules including nitric oxide, ATP, micro-vessels and exosomes. This, along with improved blood flow is what accounts for the immediate relief. For the even more impressive, sustained relief, it has been linked to the release of VEGF and other key growth factors and cytokines, as well as a boost in ATP leading to the neoangiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels) at the treatment site. Combined, this is why it typically results in an accelerated AND SUSTAINED regenerative effect. #4 SoftWaveTRT is scientifically validated to recruit and activate endogenous stem cells. #5 SoftWave technology elicits biofeedback by which origins of pain can be precisely located during treatment sessions, serving an invaluable role in treatment effectiveness and efficiency. This SoftWave’s unfocused form of Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) is far superior to other focused forms of wave generation which are not electro-hydraulically produced. Therefore, its no surprise that researchers have concluded that SoftWave is well suited as the premiere non-invasive and medication free intervention for the treatment of peripheral neuropathic pain associated with diabetes mellitus.

Class IV Laser Treatment

Prescription only Class 4 Therapeutic Lasers that are FDA-cleared medical devices, can deliver laser light to a larger volume of tissue which is required for the efficient treatment of peripheral neuropathy. These high-intensity beams of light can penetrate deeper into the tissue a lot deeper than LED or Infrared Lights. This is the only way for light to reach the deeper layers of the skin to reach these underlying tissues. This substantially helps reduce pain, inflammation and improve the function of the nerves.

A recent study has shown an almost 90% improvement of neuropathy outcomes with using Class IV laser alone which begins just weeks after starting treatment.

This is why Robert Patterson, MD, from Sanford, N.C. had stated “Class IV laser therapy should be a staple in all medical offices as it helps patients with so many conditions, even beyond Peripheral Neuropathy. We have an 80% success rate. All for people where traditional medicine has told them, ‘Sorry, you will just have to learn to live with it,’ or they are heavily drugged with medications, still hurting and they have no quality of life.”

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF)

Pulsed Electro Magnetic Field therapy directs powerful, pulsed energy waves into damaged or injured tissues.

The pulses at low frequencies pass through the skin and penetrate deeply into muscle, bones, tendons, and nerves. Admittedly, these pulses also increase the cell’s energy, and stimulates its natural repair mechanisms.

These painless waves quickly pass through the cells in the damaged region, and increases the spin of the electrons contained within them. This increase in cellular energy helps to heal damaged tissues, relieve pain, and stimulate cell growth.

Infrared Light Therapy

Neuropathy commonly occurs when the protective layer around the nerves dies due to inadequate blood supply. It’s believed infrared (IR) light therapy, on a more superficial level than laser, can also heal nerves by increasing blood circulation and triggering the release of essential molecules like nitric oxide (NO).

NO is an essential molecule for blood vessel health that promotes healing. The chemical widens blood vessels to improve circulation in the local area when using a light therapy device. Improving blood flow allows nutrient-rich and oxygen-rich blood into the nerves and tissues. As the nerves become healthier, they continually release nitric oxide, allowing the infrared light to accumulatively speed healing and relieve pain.

More than 5,000 patients using IR light therapy for neuropathy at the Neuropathy Treatment Centers of Pittsburgh had reported that approximately 70% of its patients experienced pain relief and improved function.

Juvent Micro-Vibration Therapy

The Juvent Micro-Impact Platform has been shown to promote bone health, speed recovery, relieve pain, and enhance your strength. Good skeletal health is so important to living an independent and quality life.  Juvent’s Platform can help to maintain yours. It’s evidence-based — rooted in extensive medical science — and it’s groundbreaking. Easy and effective, Juvent is an effective solution that promotes musculoskeletal health, joint pain relief, and improved balance.

When you stand on the Juvent (about the size and shape of a large bathroom scale), you’ll feel a subtle, pleasant stimulation. Starting at your feet and legs, it extends upward through your torso, arms, and upper body. Using our platform just 10 to 20 minutes, three days a week has been shown to help improve blood flow, ease joint, knee and back pain and increase stability.

How The Juvent Platform Works:

If you don’t use your muscles, they begin to atrophy, growing weaker and less effective. Your bones work the same way: without exercising the muscles surrounding them, they can become brittle and thin. Juvent’s low-magnitude mechanical impulses passively exercise your bones and muscles, increasing blood flow, relieving pain, and helping increase strength.  The video to the left will help you get a better idea of just how amazing Juvent’s technology really is.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

Essential to any effective Neuropathy Treatment is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). By driving oxygen deep into tissues, it helps all your other neuropathy treatments work more effectively. Hyperbaric oxygen reduces cell death, decreases pain symptoms, and stimulates the growth of new blood vessels which enables the body to increase effective oxygen and nutrient delivery.

HBOT also effectively heals infection by reducing swelling and increasing circulation. It does this through promoting revascularization – the formation of new blood capillaries. Once blood flow to the infected area improves, nerve repair and regrowth can begin. New nerve fibers reverse PN and relieve its symptoms. In addition, studies show that hyperbaric oxygen stimulates the release of stem cells in the wound area that differentiate into new tissue and nerve cells.

During your hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatment you can sit or lie comfortably in our chamber and breathe in pure oxygen at a variety of seal level pressures. As you do, the oxygen bathes your bodies tissues, getting into deep areas that even red blood cells can’t reach. In addition, HBOT boosts white blood cells, which strengthens your immune system.

IV Detox & Nutritional Therapy

IV drip therapy is an effective way to deliver nutrients, vitamins, and medications to the body because this technique bypasses the digestive system. This also increases your body’s ability to detoxify damaging free radicals and heavy metals. The drip is administered by a registered nurse via a catheter injected directly into the bloodstream, making the nutrients available for immediate use.

Overwhelming evidence indicates that damaging free radicals and oxidative stress-induced tissue injury are an underlying cause of neuropathy. This powerful drip acts as fuel to protect your nerves from the free radicals, slows the disease damage to neurons, and promotes peripheral nerve regeneration. Therefore, effective IV Therapy can stimulate nerve growth factor and promotes fiber regeneration. It plays a predominant role in reducing pain, paresthesia, and numbness, preventing the progression of neuropathy.

Each person and protocol vary, but as a general guide, the treatment can last anywhere from 30-60 minutes.

KEY INGREDIENTS: NAD+, Glutathione
PLUS: B-Complex Vitamins, Vitamin B12, Folic Acid, Lipoic Acid, Taurine

KEY INGREDIENTS NAD+ NAD+ plays a pivotal role in preserving and protecting neuronal cells from the damaging free radicals and oxidative stress. Various studies examined the effect of NAD+ in neuropathy, in which neurons manifest mitochondrial dysfunction, impaired mitochondrial quality control and shortage of NAD+. NAD+ has a unique ability to protect nerve cells, induce DNA repair, and potentially promoting peripheral nerve regeneration in patients with neuropathy. Glutathione As a potent and ubiquitous antioxidant, Glutathione increases your body’s ability to detoxify damaging free radicals and heavy metals. Oxidative stress plays a prominent role in neuropathy. Glutathione is one of the main defense mechanisms that nerves utilize to compensate for oxidative stress, which underlies the molecular basis of neuronal cell death. Lipoic Acid Treatment with Lipoic Acid increases glutathione levels in neuronal cells. It can stimulate nerve growth factor and promotes fiber regeneration. It plays a predominant role in reducing pain, paresthesia, and numbness, preventing the progression of neuropathy.

Radial Pulse Wave (RPW)

By creating slight micro-trauma, Radial Pulse Wave Therapy provides pain relief by accelerating healing, increasing cellular energy levels, improving range of motion and function while reducing inflammation. With each treatment, radial pulse waves increases circulation drawing water, oxygen and nutrients to the damaged area.

Physical Medicine & Massage

After a full evaluation our physical therapist and/or chiropractic team can work to customize an individualized treatment plan to best treat you.

Research has shown that physical therapy can help flexibility in extremities and improve muscle strength in those with peripheral neuropathy. In addition, treatment and exercises can reduce neuropathic pain and can help control blood sugar levels.

Your physical therapist may also work on strategies to improve your balance and coordination, both of which may be altered by peripheral neuropathy. Improving balance and coordination can help decrease your risk of falling.

Spinal and extremity alignments by Chiropractic Physicians can also effectively help relieve pain and other neuropathy symptoms. This study published by the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found that those who underwent chiropractic care also reported an improvement in their quality of life.

In addition to the well-known practice of spinal manipulation, care may also include other disciplines such as therapeutic massage.

Neurocare Light Therapy

Neurocare is the premiere Light Therapy which is applied at specific wavelengths for acute and chronic Neuropathy patients, which produces the greatest cellular response to promote healing.

Neurocare’s red and near infrared diodes cause an increase in local circulation which is cleared by the FDA, relieves pain and improves local circulation inflammation.

Thousands of patients have experienced significant relief from the pain, tingling, numbness, inflammation and swelling that often occurs in conjunction with diabetic, statin, and chemotherapy related Peripheral Neuropathy.

NeuroMed Electroanalgesia

Electroanalgesia (EA) is the treatment system by NeuroMed that delivers precise dosages of electrical energy to provide pain relief to a patient’s neuropathy problem area. This electrical energy helps stimulate the nerves that send pain messages to the brain (peripheral nerves) to block pain. The treatment is non-invasive, non-surgical and of course non-medicinal. It also works very well to help provide fast acting pain relief.

You may have used something known as a TENs unit (Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation), either through physical therapy or perhaps you bought one from your local pharmacy to use at home. These devices reduce pain through several pads that apply a low voltage to the afflicted area, and they help break up the pain signals to the brain and provide some relief. Electroanalgesia is similar in concept to the TENS units except they are able to (1) Deliver their actions deeper into the patient’s tissue to block those pain signals, and (2) Due to the higher frequencies in which the electrical pulses are delivered, it can not only reduce the ability of the affected nerves to transmit the pain signals, but also promote healing. The result is even more relief, and with the correct dosage and electrodes, Electroanalgesia can effectively reduce pain and help patients get back to the life they previously enjoyed.

This technology is used by well over 3500 physicians in the United States and has been delivered to many hospitals, universities, and other medical centers to treat patients. Some of these centers include:

  • Columbia University, New York, NY

  • The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, OH

  • Loma Linda University Medical Center, Loma Linda, CA

  • Charles R. Drew Univ. of Medicine &Science, LA, CA

We are proud to offer the only NeuroMed Electroanaglesia machine in our area, and we are highly skilled in administering this treatment.

At Home Maintenance Care

To sustain successful treatments, patients will also be sent home with an FDA cleared, simple to operate, medical device that fits in your hand and delivers tiny electrical signals to your nerves and muscles. These signals are an exact copy of normal nerve signals but larger so they can wake up sleeping nerves and strengthen muscles even in the comfort of your own home.
